Christophe Berra - Scottish Cup final lap of honour would be 'dream come true'

The Hearts players did a lap of honour to thank fans for their support in a virtually empty Tynecastle on Saturday, but doing one at Hampden with the Scottish Cup would be a dream come true for Christophe Berra.

The Jambos ended their home season with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to European hopefuls Kilmarnock after Stuart Findlay smashed home a later winner.

Not many fans stayed behind for the now traditional walk round the pitch by the players to thank them for their support.

Craig Levein 'confident" Uche Ikpeazu will be fine for Scottish Cup final

But they’ll all stick around at Hampden on 25 May if Craig Levein’s team have a trophy to parade around the national stadium.

"Doing a lap of honour with the Scottish Cup would be a dream come true for me,” Berra admitted. "It would be the ultimate high, and I'm sure it'd be the same for everyone else.

"I'm not saying it would cover up everything but it would be a great way to finish the season.

"It'll be the biggest game of the season and will be the biggest game of some boys' careers in three weeks time.”

Depsite a bad run of league form, Berra says the prospect of lifting silverware is keeping the mood high amongst the players at Tynecastle, even if fans are pessimistic.

He explained: "The Scottish Cup final is keeping our spirits up. If you've got nothing to play for in the league it'd just be a case of wanting the season over, but there's that light at the end of the tunnel, a dangling carrot.

"It's massive for players to try and get in the team and keep standards high.

"It's going to be difficult against Celtic. They're going for the treble treble but we have knocked them off their perch before when they were on their unbeaten run so I don't see why we couldn't do it again.

Hearts player ratings from home defeat to Kilmarnock

"There are things going on in the background like getting tickets for people and doing filming for media.

"When you're playing games you're not thinking about that. When you're going for 50/50s you can't take your foot off the pedal.

"The Scottish Cup Final is massive everyone knows that's our main focus now. We've got two games to go and three weeks training so it's all about prepping for that game and be ready for it.

"It's going to be a a huge occasion."
