Christmas week most deadly for COVID-19 in Perth and Kinross since May

Twenty people died from COVID-19 in Perth and Kinross over the festive period, according to new statistics.

The virus was recorded on 11 deaths registered in the week starting December 21 - the highest weekly total since May 4 .

Incident management team set up as COVID cases rise at poultry plant

There were nine deaths recorded the week after, bringing the total in the region to 133, according to the National Records of Scotland.

It comes as over 400 cases were recorded in Perth and Kinross in the week up to January 4.

Digital devices going to schools as parents prepare for home learning

Data from Public Health Scotland says 409 cases were recorded, compared with 196 the week before.

The infection rate in the region is now 269.2 per 100,000 people, compared with 129 the week before.

Over 11 per cent of tests in the region are now returning positive results.
