Christmas weather 2019: Famous Ireland postman Michael Gallagher shares forecast prediction for festive season

He's Ireland's best known amateur weatherman and he's back with a prediction for Christmas 2019.

Donegal postman, Michael Gallagher has finally shared his forecast for the festive season and anyone hoping for a white Christmas will be very happy.

Michael has been predicting summer and winter weather forecasts for decades and does so by observing nature.

He says that there is a "strong possibility of snow around Christmas" with a "changeable winter" and "lots of cold weather on the way" in December.

He told RSVP Live: "The foxes are coming down from the mountains and the robins are going into the houses - they are well aware that something is in the air.

"There is definitely a change on the way in December, it will be very interesting to see.

"There was lots of hay made this summer and the older people are saying it will all be used over the winter - nature looks after its own."

Michael, who retired from An Post four years ago after delivering mail in the Bluestack Mountains for 48 years, learned about traditional methods of predicting the weather from the older generation.

"I like to keep the old traditions alive," he added.

"The older generation would always use these methods, they relied on them."

The Glenfin native has been eerily accurate with his predictions in the past - forecasting the big freeze of 2010 as well as the scorching summer of 2018.
