Christmas tree goes through the roof for Bournemouth family

It's been dubbed one of the ''most stunning Christmas trees ever seen in suburbia''. Greig Howe wanted to give the children a Yuletide they would never forget so he installed in his Bournemouth home a festive pine so tall it appears to be smashing through his roof. It took him two days to arrange the 10.6-metre (35ft) tree so that it looked as if it were all one piece and growing through each floor level.

It was achieved by cutting the trunk into three sections, then pulling the parts into place with the aid of rope and seven willing friends. Along with 160 baubles and 2,000 lights it cost £250.

The father of three said: "From the outside it appears to be one huge tree that has shot up through the ceilings and floorboard and out through the roof. People keep stopping and laughing at it."

With prices of Christmas trees rising, and families thought to be cutting back on even festive expenses this year, is this a lone example of Christmas extravagance? What's the most extravagant thing you've done for Christmas?
