A Christmas light trail has opened less than an hour from Liverpool and it could be one of the most magical in the region.
The event at Dunham Massey has returned for the festive season and those visiting are in for a real treat.
I got a sneak preview of the trail this week and it’s simply stunning from start to finish.

As a big Christmas fan I certainly don’t need any encouragement when it comes to starting the celebrations early and I was thrilled to visit Dunham Massey’s trail, having heard such good things in recent years.
The experience begins with sparkling light up fountains before you wander into an area with food and drinks stalls and a small fun fair for young children, including a carousel and helter skelter. The food was delicious, with stonebaked pizza, chicken kebabs and loaded fries all available. Before leaving, I treated myself to a hot spiced cider for the walk and off we went to explore the mile long trail.
As well as being visually stunning, there’s festive music along the way, including songs from The Nutcracker and The Snowman, along with a dash of Mariah and Wham.
I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone visiting this year by giving away every step of the journey, but highlights to look out for include the stunning garden of illuminated roses, a walk beneath a row of red sparkling hearts and the peacefulness of the fire garden towards the end.
There are plenty of other surprises too (spoiler alert - keep an eye out for Father Christmas) and whatever your age, don’t miss out on toasting giant marshmallows over huge fire pits.
Dunham Massey’s Illuminated Trail opened on November 19 and runs until January 2, 2022.
