Bookies are hedging their bets on the region getting a white Christmas but snow is falling in Durham city centre right now, much to the surprise of many shoppers.
The city is bracing itself for a hectic weekend with many people heading to town to check out the Christmas decorations, get some last minute presents bought and enjoy a few festive tipples before Santa comes.
But, while anyone heading to Durham would have expected it to be busy this weekend, one thing they definitely didn't bank on seeing is snow!
With temperatures actually climbing as the week has gone, any forecast for snow went out of the window but shoppers in the city have been covered in it on Saturday and Sunday.
Sorry to disappoint you though - it's not real, so don't go rushing to the bookies to just yet!
Durham BID announced a while ago that this weekend would be 'Snow in Durham' with artificial show blowing from a number of shops and buildings in the city onto the street below.
As you can see in the above video, the snowflakes look VERY realistic. The video was taken by Riccardo Cultera on Saturday and was quickly shared hundreds of times much to his surprise!
He told Chronicle Live "My post went viral and I cannot stop laughing! I didn’t say anywhere in my post that it was 'real'.
It was pretty believable though, right?"
