Christmas school holidays will not be extended in Scotland, government confirms

School Christmas holidays will NOT be extended in Scotland, it has been confirmed this morning.

The Scottish Government had been considering a move to shut down classes earlier, on December 18.

And under proposals discussed last week, pupils would not have returned until January 11.

But Education Secretary, John Swinney, this morning confirmed that officials would not proceed with the plans.

He told MSPs: "I've written this morning to the education and skills committee to confirm the government intends to make no change to the school holiday arrangements."
