Christmas Party ruined at Wollaton home after power cut for hours

A family said their Christmas party has been ruined after the food defrosted during a power cut which has lasted for hours at their Wollaton home.

Western Power Distribution said the power cut has affected 34 customers.

An estimated time for the power to be switched back on has not yet been given.

Homes have been affected in Lambourne Drive, Caxmore Drive and Ellwood Crescent.

Susan Wheatcroft, 37, of Caxmere Drive, was going to have friends around for a Christmas dinner this evening.

She said the power has been out since 1pm.

She said: "Our freezer has started to defrost.

"We put a call out and they said estimated time was 5pm but we called again and they said 8pm.

"We have done our Christmas Party shopping but we can't cook it. We might have to lose the food we have bought. This is the second power cut in two weeks."

A spokeswoman for Western Power Distribution said: "It is a fault with the low voltage network.

"We restored everyone at 2.40pm but unfortunately it has gone again and we don't know why.

"We have an engineer en route."

She said it could be a problem with a wire or substation and a time for the power to be restored has not yet been given.
