Christmas number 1 odds revealed as LadBaby, Gary Barlow and ABBA tipped to enter race

It might only be the start of November but bookies have already revealed their odds for this year's Christmas number 1.

The battle to be the festive chart-topper has been one of the most hotly contested for years now, with memorable tussles in the last 20 years including Girls Aloud v One True Voice in 2002, Westlife against Bob the Builder in 2000 and Rage Against the Machine stopping X Factor winner Joe McElderry from getting the coveted number 1 in 2009.

And then who can forget one of the biggest shocks ever from nearly 30 years ago now when Mr Blobby beat Take That?!

While it's not quite as big a deal these days, largely down to the impact of streaming; there are still a whole host of acts readying songs to do battle this year.

Christmas number 1 for the past three years has gone to LadBaby with his songs We Built This City, I Love Sausage Rolls and "Don't Stop Me Eatin'.

He has stayed tight-lipped so far on whether he's going for four in a row but one duo who already have a song in the bag are Gary Barlow and Sheridan Smith with their track How Christmas Is Supposed To Be.

Another pair set to release a festive single are Elton John and Ed Sheeran, while boyband The Wanted are said to be willing to throw their hat into the ring and, after her amazing comeback, Adele is also near the front of the pack with bookies William Hill.

And speaking of comebacks, one of the tracks on ABBA's highly anticipated new album Voyage is a Christmas track, so don't discount them either.

Christmas number 1 2021 odds

LadBaby:13/8

Adele: 9/4

Elton John and Ed Sheeran: 4/1

ABBA - 17/2

Gary Barlow & Sherdan Smith: 9/1

The Wanted: 16/1

Wham: 18/1

Dua Lipa: 20/1

Before LadBaby made the Christmas number 1 spot his own, there were a variety of different acts who took the title, with Ed Sheeran getting it in 2017 with Perfect and Clean Bandit sitting pretty at number 1 a year earlier with their long-running chart-topper Rockabye.

Many of the Christmas number 1s of the past two decades have gone to X Factor winners with Shayne Wards, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson, Alexandra Burke, Matt Cardle, James Arthur, Sam Bailey and Ben Haenow all doing the business.
