Dublin Christmas: The unofficial festive drinks ranking and what makes them so delicious

The December trip to the off licence in preparation for Christmas tipples is always a joyful time.

While every year you will find unusual cocktails and bizarre flavours, there are some Christmas drinks that will always remain classics.

Most festive drinks in Ireland have to be hot but there are a few notable and delicious exceptions to the rule.

One sip of these boozy beverages will fling you into the Christmas spirit instantly.

Here is the (un)official ranking of Irelands favourite Christmas drinks and the ingredients you need to create them yourself at home.

5) Mulled Wine

Some might say mulled wine is the most festive of all the Christmas drinks included on the list. You may be right, but, the idea of going to a pub and having a mulled wine just seems bizarre when compared to the other options. Still, it has its place.

Mulled wine is usually made with red wine, cinnamon, brown sugar and some fruit such as orange and lemon. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, why not throw a bit of brandy in on top?

4) Irish Coffee

Another drink that can be consumed without judgement, all year round. A classic choice for those seeking a warm beverage but also need a little caffeine hit.

Irish coffee is made with 2 parts whiskey, 4 parts coffee and topped off with fresh cream and brown sugar.

3) Guinness

Guinness truly is a drink for every occasion. Nothing says Christmas like picking up a slab of Guinness at your local supermarket and then drinking far too much on Christmas day.

Guinness is made with 100% pure deliciousness and that's all you need to know.

2) Baileys Irish Cream

The almost-quintessential Irish Christmas drink that is consumed by millions around the world, except for maybe, Mariah Carey.

Definitely the most simple to make of any of the drinks included on the list. All you need is a bottle of the finest Irish cream, a glass, and one cube of ice and away you go.

1) Hot Whiskey

And here we have it. The hot whiskey (hot toddy outside of Ireland) is the perfect Christmas drink (and all year round if you're suffering from a cold). It's usually made with Paddy, some hot water, brown sugar and an orange or lemon wedge.
