It's safe to assume that most workers would like to increase the amount of time off they get.

After all, annual leave is a precious commodity and we'd all like to spend a bit more time with our loved ones, especially at Christmas.

So what if we were to tell you that there is a way you can more than double your time off work this December, using just a few days of holiday?

If you're savvy about it and get in there quick before your colleagues catch on.

How to get more time off this December

You can get 16 days of work off using just seven days of annual leave this year because Christmas Day falls on a Tuesday - meaning you can leave work on Friday December 21 and not return until Monday, January 7

Since Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day are all Bank Holidays, for that week all you need to do is book off Christmas Eve, which is sandwiched between the weekend and a Bank Holiday, along with December 27 and Friday, December 28.

The following Tuesday is New Year's Day - so again, just put in the request for New Year's Eve on the Monday and you won't have to return to work until Wednesday, January 2. - giving you 11 days of uninterrupted leave.

But if you want to stretch it out a bit further, you can book off Wednesday, January 2 to Friday, January 4 and you will only have to go back to work on Monday, January 7 - a whole 16 days of holiday using just seven days of leave.

But be quick to put your requests in early because it won't be long until your colleagues catch on.
