Christmas fundraiser raises over half a million for cancer charity

Staff and customers at a Livingston garden centre helped to raise over half a million pounds for charity.

Dobbies Garden Centres announced its milestone of raising over £549,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The company picked the trust last year as its first ever national charity partner after having worked with them over several successful Christmas fundraising periods.

Fundraising took place across the UK, including at the store in Livingston, through the donations from carrier bag purchases, individual store-led activity, nationwide fundraising events and staff taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge.

A Christmas charity night, Santa’s arrival and the ladies night all took place across the company leading up to the festive season.

Chief executive Graeme Jenkins said: “We take great pride in our ongoing partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust and this achievement of raising over £500k for the charity is something truly special for everyone here.

“A mix of hard work and creative ideas from across the Dobbies team has made this possible and we look forward to continuing these efforts over the festive period.”

Christine Jason from the Teenage Cancer Trust said: “Every day seven young people aged 13-24 are diagnosed with cancer.

“Our specialist nurses, hospital wards and support teams work hard to help young people and their families cope with the huge impact that a cancer diagnosis and treatment has on their lives. None of this work would be possible without our wonderful supporters.

“We absolutely love working with both team members and customers at every Dobbies store and we are ecstatic about reaching this incredible milestone through our partnership with them.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has helped raise such an incredible sum of money.”
