Christmas FM returns to Dublin airwaves this weekend

Christmas FM is returning to the airwaves this Sunday at midday to mark the official beginning of the festive season.

The popular festive radio station, which plays non-stop Christmas songs and supports charity, marks the start of Christmas for many Irish people.

As well as music, there will be familiar voices in the form of volunteer presenters who want to bring a smile to listeners' faces.

2021 sees the station in its 14th on the air and, since its first broadcast, Christmas FM has raised over €2.7 million for a range of charities.

This year, the charity of choice is Barnardos.

Christmas FM aims to raise a whopping €250,000 for the charity, funds that will provide targeted and intensive support for over 5,000 children most in need including nutritious food, support with education and therapeutic services with their trained support teams.

Christmas FM is supported by sponsors An Post, Cadbury and Coca-Cola, ensuring that all listener donations go directly to Barnardos.

Christmas FM will be broadcasting from the offices of askpaul.ie who have donated the studio space this year.

Speaking about the station reaching its 14 year milestone, co-founder of Christmas FM Garvan Rigby explained: "To have reached this mark, it goes to show the incredible work done by our volunteers and we would like to thank each and every one of our listeners who have supported us and in turn, supported each of our chosen charities."

He added: "We’re excited to officially open the Christmas season in Ireland and begin our fundraising for our charity partner Barnardos, so we can reach our aim of providing targeted and intensive support for over 5,000 children most in need in Ireland."

Meanwhile, Suzanne Connolly, CEO of Barnardos, said: "With the help of Christmas FM listeners, we hope to raise money to ensure we can provide nutritious meals to children in our centres, that we can continue to support them in their educational, physical, and emotional development and that our specially trained teams can offer targeted therapeutic support to those who need it most."

The FM radio frequency for Christmas FM in Dublin City and County is 105.2.

You can also tune in online and via the Christmas FM app.
