Christmas Eve opening times for Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores

Grocery shopping can be a bit of a blood sport in Ireland in the run-up to Christmas with packed aisles, carparks and checkouts.

Despite supermarket opening late in the run-up to Christmas, we sometimes just need to dash on a Christmas Eve for the last-minute bits - be that bread, butter, Baileys cream or herbs for the stuffing.

There will be queues today but the shops are open and you still have time to grab the essentials.

Here are the opening hours for all the major Irish supermarkets on Christmas Eve.

Dunnes Stores

There is no set Christmas schedule for all Dunnes Stores branches as the opening hours will vary depending on your location but Christmas Eve will be the last day to get to Dunnes before December 27, as all Dunnes Stores premises will close on Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day. To find your local store's opening hours, click here.

Most Dunnes Stores shops will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve and will reopen at 8am on Tuesday, December 27.

Tesco

Most Tesco stores will open early at 6am on Christmas Eve, while they will also close early on 24 December, at 7pm.

Tesco shops will be closed on Christmas Day and will reopen on St Stephen's Day, operating on opening hours of 10am to 8pm but these may differ in Tesco Extra branches. You can check your local store's opening hours here.

Aldi

Aldi stores nationwide will open at 8am on Christmas Eve but will also close earlier than usual, at 7pm.

Aldi branches throughout Ireland will remain closed on Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day, and they will reopen at 9am on Tuesday, December 27.

Lidl

Lidl's Christmas schedule is quite similar to Aldi's in that it will open at 8am on Christmas Eve but it will close an hour earlier, at 6pm.

Lidl too will remain closed on Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day. Stores will reopen at 9am on Tuesday, December 27.

SuperValu

Each SuperValu store in Ireland is run as an individual entity, meaning there is no set opening hours nationwide over the festive period. You can check your local store's opening hours using the store locator here.

Most SuperValu branches will open from 7am to 8pm on Christmas Eve and will close on Christmas Day, reopening on St Stephen's Day at 10am.
