Christmas comes early for West Lothian charity

A community development trust’s ‘Christmas Time’ project has been gifted funding from a local housebuilder.

Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust has secured the money from Persimmon Homes East Scotland through the builder’s successful Community Champions programme. Each month the Bathgate-based housebuilder donates up to £1000 each to two groups or individuals.

The Trust is currently raising funds for its ‘Christmas Time’ project to help support the community, particularly through this year’s extended periods of lockdown causing widespread isolation and loneliness. The volunteers work hard to support people in the community but have struggled with fundraising due to COVID restrictions.

Ann Holloway, co-ordinator at Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust, said: “We are delighted to receive support from our local Persimmon office, it’s a real boost for us.

“The money will make a huge difference to people of all ages in the community and help us toward costs involved in delivering our community Christmas plans.

“This has been a difficult year for everyone affecting the young and old in many ways and we wanted to offer some festive cheer to raise everyone’s spirits. We know that people in our community are struggling spending long periods at home, often without seeing friends and family.

“We are largely dependent on the generosity of people and businesses in the community and want to thank Persimmon.”

Laura Still, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to be able to make this donation to Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust.

“Anyone who has experienced the feeling of isolation and loneliness will understand how important this type of community involvement is and we hope that our support in delivering the Trust’s Christmas plans, including the hampers gives everyone a real festive boost.”
