There will be changes to the Metro timetable over Christmas and New Year.
Bank Holidays on Christmas Day and New Year's Day mean there will no Metros running throughout Newcastle, Tyneside and Sunderland.
Boxing Day is a bank holiday, but Nexus has confirmed there will a normal weekday service. New Year's Eve is not a bank holiday, and a normal Metro service is planned.
There will be a normal Metro service between Friday, December 27 and Tuesday December 31.
If you plan on using the Metro Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21, be warned, there is a strike planned. The weekend includes a home match for Newcastle United against Crystal Palace on Saturday, December 21. Kick off is at 3pm.
Tyne and Wear Metro Christmas and New Year services
- There are no Metro services on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day .
- On Christmas Eve , there's a normal weekday service.
- On Boxing Day , there will be a normal weekday service
- From Friday, December 27 until Tuesday December 31 (including New Year's Eve) Metro services will run to the usual timetables.

Strike action 20 and 21 December
The RMT union has informed Nexus of strike action by train crew on the Tyne and Wear Metro on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 December. In the event of strike action no Metro service will be running system-wide for the two full days and passengers will need to find alternative modes of transport.
