Christmas adverts for 2021 from John Lewis to Boots, Sports Direct and M&S

It's November, it's getting colder outside and before you know it, it will be time to leave some mince pies on your mantlepiece for Santa Claus.

Mariah Carey has officially declared it Christmas season - and what better to way to celebrate than by watching the latest Christmas adverts?

Many retailers across the country have released their Christmas ads for 2021 today.

From John Lewis and Sports Direct to Disney and Boots, here's a round-up of the best ones so far.

John Lewis: Unexpected Guest

This year's highly-anticipated John Lewis advert sees young Nathan befriend space-traveller Skye, who crashes her UFO in a forest nearby.

Skye has never experienced Christmas before, so Nathan shows her the wonders of the season - from playing in the snow to eating mince pies.

When Skye is ready to return to space, Nathan gives her his Christmas jumper before she blasts away into the night sky.

The ad features a slowed-down version of Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder's 1984 hit, Together in Electric Dreams - covered by 20-year-old singer Lola Young.

Sports Direct: Go All Out

Sports Direct really have Gone All Out this Christmas - they've produced the most expensive festive advert of the year, featuring a £6 million budget.

It stars Emma Raducanu, Jack Grealish and a line-up of 16 sports stars, reports the Mirror.

The ad shows the tennis champion and football star battling it out in a snowball fight.

Also on the team are Premier League footballers Jordan Pickford, Mason Mount, Declan Rice, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and England Women’s pro Fran Kirby.

It doesn't stop there - it also features Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis-Hill and heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, as well as England rugby union giants Maro Itoje Anthony Watson and England Women’s Harriet Millar-Mills.

In the ad, the sports stars notice it's snowing and get wrapped up for the weather, heading outside.

Everton goalie Jordan kicks things off by landing a snowball on England team-mate Jack while Chelsea midfielder Mason lies on the floor making snow angels.

US Open winner Emma uses her racket to smash snowballs while golfer Andrew “Beef” Johnston drives one high above the rooftops.

M&S: Percy Pig Comes to Life

Marks & Spencer have glitzed up their Christmas advert with a sprinkling of celebrities this year.

The ad stars comedian Dawn French as a fairy Christmas tree decoration (who comes to life) and Spiderman actor Tom Holland as Percy Pig.

The fairy drops her magic wand, landing on a gift box that Percy was sat in - bringing the adorable pig to life.

"Hello Percy, Merry Christmas," the fairy coos.

But of course, Percy has never experienced Christmas before; he has only been 'alive' for a few seconds.

So he explores a Marks & Spencer shop, checking out the fancy festive food on offer.

Let's just hope he steers clear of the pigs in blankets.

Boots: #BagsOfJoy

Another Christmas advert, another A-lister.

Boots brought in Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman this year, who introduces us to the ultimate Christmas gift from her nan.

It's a red and gold bottomless hand bag, filled with festive goodies.

From tree baubles to fairy lights, she magically finds everything she needs while preparing for the big day.

Jenna's character returns home to see her family and tries to repay her nan for the handy gift.

She pulls out the perfect Christmas present for everyone at home, and gifts her nan a bottle of her favourite perfume, reminding her it's what 'love' smells like.

Disney: The Stepdad

Following on from the previous year’s advert, “Lola“, this year we see Nicole - the grown-up granddaughter from Lola - with her own two children, Max and Ella.

Cue stepdad Mike; he's moving in just in time for Christmas, and is anxious to make a good impression on his new family.

The ad is centred around a special storybook, which was a gift from Max's birth father.

It's full of Disney and Pixar stories which come to life (are you sensing a theme here?) as the family read the book together.

The four of them start making festive memories - from building a snowman to making a gingerbread house.

Mike sees a drawing by Max stuck on the fridge; it's a family portrait, of mum, the kids, the family dog - and now Mike - stood outside their house.

He smiles, having been accepted into the family.

But Christmas isn't always straightforward - the ad also chronicles a few seasonal bumps in the road, which, like any good Disney film, resolves itself in the end.

The story is sound tracked by Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter Gregory Porter.

His original track Love Runs Deeper provides the narration from Mike’s perspective.

It's the longest of the Christmas adverts so far, running at just under three and a half minutes.

TK Maxx: Christmas to the Maxx

We're going back to school with TK Maxx this Christmas.

The ad follows young organist Laurie, who's nervous about performing at his school's Christmas concert.

After starting on a (literal) bad note, he looks down at his feet and gains confidence from his swanky new boots - which were an early Christmas present from his proud parents.

He tries again, and this time he brings the house down.

Everyone is up and dancing, in awe of his talent - and, of course, his shiny new shoes.
