Christmas 2021: We compared all the pigs in blankets options from major supermarkets

With Christmas time approaching, all eyes will be on the cooks of the house bringing in all the wonderful festive favourites, one of which is pigs in blankets.

Everyone will have their own personal favourite addition to the Christmas dinner plate. Some prefer the turkey, some love a good bit of stuffing, but most enjoy and lust over the mini sausages wrapped in bacon.

Having been a traditional Christmas favourite and dating all the way back to the late 1950s, pigs in blankets remain a must-have item in many households every year, with some people even tucking in before the 25th.

To get a sense of who produces the finest and best value-for-money pigs in blankets, we decided to research all the major supermarkets chains to recommend the best choice for customers.

Tesco are offering a huge pigs in blankets bundle soon, serving up to 12 people. (Tesco)

Tesco

With Tesco being one of the biggest and most popular supermarket chains in the UK, it seemed like an ideal place to start.

Tesco do offer a selection of different pigs in blankets all year round. Included in their frozen party food three for £5 offer, you can opt for 12 of the little fellas.

For Christmas, though, they are offering a packet of Tesco's Finest ten pigs in blankets for £2.50 and a bundle of 20 frozen ones for £3.50.

Under the 'coming soon' section, people's eyes will light up as there is an option for 36 pigs and blankets, serving 12 people, along with Tesco's finest eight candy cane pigs in blankets with an orange and maple glaze. The prices for these two items are undecided as of yet.

Asda

Being one of Tesco's fiercest rivals, Asda are also offering a fine selection of pigs in blankets ahead of the big day.

Asda may also attract more customers this year as all of their options are gluten free. Asda are offering, in a similar style to Tesco, their finest pigs and blankets in a box of 12 for £2.50.

They are also providing their 'Butcher's Choice' selection of ten pigs in blankets for £2.99 and 12 vegan pigs in blankets for £2.59.

The knockout punch comes in the form of a giant 650g 'ultimate pig in blanket' for £5.

Sainsbury's offer a pigs in blankets and cheese combo for £7.50. (Sainsbury's)

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's currently don't have as wide a range of pigs in blankets as the first two supermarket's, but they do offer a pack of 12 with a whole Camembert cheese, ideal for baking then dipping. Nobody has thought of that yet!

These are a bit pricey, however, and will set you back a steep £7.50.

For their own version of normal pigs in blankets, in a pack of 12, they are charging £3. This is a similar price to both Tesco and Asda.

Morrisons

With Morrisons not traditionally being as popular as the first three supermarket's, they do still offer a wide range of special deals and a selection of groceries that others do not.

Morrisons have you covered this Christmas, offering a range of pigs in blankets in different portion sizes and making them available to order so people don't miss out.

Morrisons finest pack of ten pigs in blankets are available for £3 and customers can order these from early December. Their everyday pack of ten pigs in blankets are available for £2.50 and those can be ordered from mid November.

There is also a vegan option for the same price as the everyday packet and an option for 12 meaty pigs in blankets for £2.60.

Aldi

When it comes to Aldi, people are usually used to making a huge saving compared to other supermarket's due to their own branded goods and cheaper meat options.

In sticking with this principal, Aldi are offering a pack of 12 pigs in blankets for just £1.79. Unfortunately these are being snapped up already and are currently sold out online.

An even cheaper option for ten pigs in blankets are available for just 99p. Similar to Tesco, they also offer a party food pack of 12 for £1.79, without a doubt the cheapest so far!
