Christmas 2020: Dublin families light up homes to raise money for a good cause

Homes around the country are lit-up for Christmas in a festive feast for the eyes.

Bringing joy to the end of a miserable 2020, many homeowners have gone the extra mile to lift the mood of neighbours.

Lights, snowmen and Santas galore will see some electricity bills soar come January - but most are in aid of a good cause.

Dylan Walsh in Finglas West Dublin, joined forces with seven neighbours for their display, raising money for Arc Cancer Support and they are just shy of their €2,000 target.

Mr Walsh said: “Everyone needed a boost this year, especially after the lockdowns.

“There are thousands of metres of lights to untangle but I don’t mind. I want everyone to have a merry Christmas.”

William Tilly in Ringsend, Dublin, turns his house into a winter wonderland for Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services.

Meanwhile, Josie Leonard’s house in Crumlin, Dublin, has won awards for her eye-popping display of cheer.

She’s raising funds for young people’s mental health through the Jigsaw charity.

A house in Palmerstown Lawn, South Dublin, is fundraising for seven-year-old Dylan Lester, who has cerebral palsy.

Outside the capital, two houses on Sli An Chanail in Leixlip have joined forces to create a winter wonderland, in aid of a local girl who has cancer.
