Christine McGuinness shares 'unusual' Christmas Day plans with family

Christine McGuinness has revealed how she and her family plan to celebrate Christmas this year.

The mum-of-three, who lives with her family in Cheshire, said she is gearing up for a more ‘unusual’ approach to the festive season.

Christine, who was recently diagnosed with autism, said her children’s sensory issues and food aversions change Christmas for the family.

"My children [who have autism] are the same [as me],” Christine told the ECHO.

“They don't like loud, busy environments and there are a lot of foods they won't eat either."

Christine has also said the tree in their home is very basic, and that the kids will have just a small pile of presents each because "less is more" and she doesn't want to overload them.

The model and The Real Housewives of Cheshire star shares three children, Penelope, Felicity and Leo, with Bolton -born actor and presenter Paddy McGuinness.

Last year, Christine shared a viral post on Instagram where she revealed her children’s Christmas Day dinner consisted of fish fingers and chips.

Captioning the post on Instagram, she said: "Autism doesn't stop for Christmas day! They like what they like and I want my children to eat so I choose my battles and I don't want one today!

"For anyone who may not understand this, food aversion can be quite common for those with autism.

"This isn’t lazy parenting or fussy children, this is sensory issues due to their condition that limits what our children eat. I am delighted they are very slowly exploring new textures.

"I’m just happy they eat because there have been times they totally refuse."

In an interview with the M.E.N earlier this month, Christine spoke about her recent autism diagnosis: "“When I got the diagnosis, I can honestly say it was such a huge relief. Just to know there was a reason why I felt this way and why I struggled with certain things.

“It’s really helped me, my husband to understand autism a lot more, it’s helped me when it comes to work, and in everyday life.”

Former Miss Liverpool Christine recently released her first book, A Beautiful Nightmare, in which she revealed she felt ‘physically sick’ after seeing photos of husband Paddy walking arm-in-arm with All Saints’ star Nicole Appleton.

She also spoke in candid detail about her childhood, which was blighted by sex abuse, rape, alcohol, and anorexia.
