Christine McGuinness shares all the clothes she can't wear due to autism diagnosis

Christine McGuinness has shared all the clothes she can't wear due to her autism diagnosis.

The former Miss Liverpool recently announced that she had been diagnosed with autism at the age of 33.

The mum-of-three was already known as a prominent campaigner for autism awareness as all three of her children - Felicity, Leo and Penelope - have been diagnosed with the condition.

Christine described her own diagnosis as "a relief" and said her husband Paddy had suspected she might be autistic when she told him the news.

The 33-year-old has now opened up about how the condition affects the clothes she can wear, with autumn and winter clothes being her "worst nightmare."

Posting on Instagram, Christine said: "Clothes and sensory issues #TactileDefensiveness.

"I’m not expecting many of you to understand this one but here I ago! Let me know if this is you too.

"These photos are from a recent photo shoot with @ok_mag the clothes were autumn/winter (my worst nightmare).

"Even though I know the clothes are lovely, I wouldn’t want to wear these all day.

"I started modelling in my teens so I’m used to having to wear things for photo shoots that I don’t necessarily feel comfortable in.

"I can’t bare woolly jumpers on my skin, collars, big buttons, particular fabrics just really irritate me! Tights.. I just can’t, and polo necks. Noooo!"

Christine continued: "High necks are one of my biggest hates, I even feel uncomfortable when other people wear them. Sorry, no offensive to anyone who loves a polo neck.

"I’m not talking about the fashion or the look at all (tbh I’m not clued up on fashion) it’s the feel of the clothes, the texture.
I just like everything quite plain and soft.

"I’ve cut labels out of my clothes forever and I do the same for my children because they feel itchy.

"I am that girl who can’t tell you where her dress is from.

"Thank you to the stylist on this shoot @ellisransonx I know I can be very particular but I love how we laugh through it and you push my boundaries! we even got patterns!"

In an exclusive interview with the ECHO last month, Christine revealed she was misdiagnosed by a doctor as a teenager.

Christine said: "I was really thin and underweight.

"I struggled in social situations, and there were a lot of foods I just couldn't eat.

"I didn't feel I was able to sit in the school canteen with everyone, and the food was typical school dinner food, which I just don't like."

Christine said she believes the doctor gave her a diagnosis too quickly.

She continued: "He told me I was anorexic, and I believed that.

"But actually since I have been given my autism diagnosis, I know now it wasn't anorexia at all.

"My children [who have autism] are the same, they don't like loud, busy environments and there are a lot of foods they won't eat either.

"Maybe if he'd asked me more about it, he could have come to the right conclusion. Maybe they were different times though, autism definitely wasn't talked about as much back then."
