Christine McGuinness says serving her autistic kids fish fingers on Christmas isn't 'lazy'

Christine McGuinness is one doting mother and does all she can to ensure her children are happy.

And she has revealed that to make sure they ate on Christmas Day she had to dish up plates of fish fingers and chips whilst her and husband Paddy McGuinness, 47, enjoyed a traditional roast with all the trimmings.

The RHOC star, 32, has always been open about the struggles she faces with her three kids - seven-year-old twins, Penelope and Leo, and her four-year-old Felicity - who all have autism and on Christmas Day she served them a "beige meal" due to their food aversions.

She explained on her Instagram page: "Swipe for the kiddies Christmas dinner because autism doesn’t stop for Christmas day!. They like what they like and I want my children to eat so I choose my battles and I don’t want one today!

"For anyone who may not understand this, food aversion can be quite common for those with autism."

Explaining her decision to feed them oven food, she explained: "This isn’t lazy parenting or fussy children, this is sensory issues due to their condition that limits what our children eat. I am delighted they are very slowly exploring new textures.

"I’m just happy they eat because there have been times they totally refuse. It may be basic and it’s still all beige but they’re happy and their tummies are full

"For anyone with autistic children this Christmas.. I hope you had a calm day, I feel your exhaustion and I hear your sigh of relief that the Christmas period is almost over."

Alongside the post, she added a snap of her and comedian Paddy tucking into their dinners and a second snap of the children's frozen food on plastic plates.

In May Christine told that she thought was her fault her trio of children were autistic because they spent all their time with her when their dad was working away from home a lot.

Speaking on MTV podcast Nappy Days, Christine said: "They were with me permanently. My husband works away a lot so I thought maybe it was me and that I hadn't taught them very well.

"They also never went to nursery or play groups so I blamed myself for them having no social skills.

"I thought that it was down to me doing a rubbish job as a mother."

According to the NHS, it's not known what causes autism.

It can be genetic but it isn't caused by parenting.
