Christine McGuinness says autistic kids are too scared to go outside with lockdown anxiety

Christine McGuinness has related her parenting struggles as her kids have "regressed" during the ongoing lockdown.

Christine and husband Paddy share Leo and Penelope, six, and Felicity, four, all of whom have autism.

Doting mum Christine has previously told of the struggles lockdown has presented, and has now urged the public to have a greater awareness of autism as her kids are afraid to even go into the family garden.

Sharing a snap of one of her kids playing on a mini castle in their back garden, Christine wrote: "Ok so I wanted to caption this image something fun like 'P.E. done'...but the truth is this is a bitter sweet moment.

"Bitter because we have had this mini castle for months and our children have regressed so much personally, emotionally they're filled with fear and anxiety about going outside, even in your own garden, they haven't actually played on it yet.

"#Autism #AutismAwareness. Sweet because finally one of them tried, this was the only moment, it lasted 1-2 minutes.

"But I'll take the positives one step at a time, well done baby!"

Christine was flooded with kind words and messages of support from followers.

One wrote: "Well done, every day is a new day."

"We are in this together!" another offered, "Boy do I totally understand this."

A third gushed: "That's lovely Christine hopefully the start to something wonderful x you and Paddy are amazing."

During a recent appearance on Loose Women, Christine told: "Whether you've got children or not, this is a really difficult time, but certainly for children or adults with autism, this is really affecting them.

"It's quite common for autistic kids to have development delays anyway...and all of the things that they've struggled with that we've spent years and years trying to help them with, now it feels like we've gone back two years."
