Christine McGuinness breaks down over disabled parking row

Christine McGuinness broke down during an interview as she explained how hard it is to take her autistic children out of the house.

Speaking on BBC North West on Monday, the Real Housewives of Cheshire star explained that a trip out with her three children - twins Penelope and Leo, six, and four-year-old Felicity - was an ‘achievement’.

This comes after her husband Paddy McGuinness raged on Twitter about an 'ignorant tool' who challenged him and his family when they parked in a disabled space.

Christine said on the news programme that thankfully her children were unaware about what was happening, but got emotional when she explained how difficult it is for her to take her children outside.

“It’s an achievement for us to get out of the door with our children and there is nothing I want more as a mum than to be able to…” she said, before breaking down.

After composing herself, she continued: “There’s nothing I want more than for me to be able to take my children out on my own. I don’t have to have help all the time. I park there because it’s safe.”

Christine, 31, also recalled her relief that hubby Paddy was with her when the strange man approached them and shouted ‘you don’t look disabled’.

The couple have a blue badge and are entitled to park in disabled bays when they are with their children.

“He started the conversation shouting ‘you are not disabled’ and pointed at my husband and looked at me, ‘you are not disabled’,” she told the programme.

“My husband pointed out the blue badge is in the window, we are entitled to park there, this badge is for our children. The man continued to question us, ‘Why, you don’t look disabled, they don’t look disabled’.”

This is not a one-off - Christine has spoken out before on social media about how she is challenged over her children not ‘looking disabled enough’ and her mission to raise awareness and understanding for autism.

BBC North West airs today on BBC One at 6.30pm.
