Christine McGeechan from Craigneuk is this weeks Say It With Flowers recipient

A caring Craigneuk fundraiser has been recognised by her cousin for her kindness and community spirit.

Christine McGeechan, 59, was nominated for our Say It With Flowers award for her tireless work in the Craigneuk community by her loving cousin Joyce Ledwidge.

She was instrumental in getting a Christmas tree and lights for Craigneuk after the council cancelled the funding due to its budget cuts.

Kind-hearted Christine was determined to keep the festive spirit alive and set up a Go Fund Me page and approached councillors, and successfully raised over £2000, thanks to her friends and neighbours.

Joyce told the Wishaw Press: “Christine organised a Go Fund Me page and raffles and got money from the four local councillors, who each pledged £250, and all in all she raised over £2000 which paid for the tree and lights.

“This year she has arranged for all the children to get personalised letters from Santa because we can’t get Santa Claus around the streets.

“She is the heart and soul of the Craigneuk community and goes out of her way to help other people.”

And as well as being a force for good, Christine supports her family and has cared for her husband since his heart attack a few years ago.

Joyce explained: “She has always looked after other people before herself. Tommy had a heart attack a few years ago and he doesn’t get out at all now. She is so kind and thoughtful and for his 60th birthday a few months ago, she got him a piper.

“Since the coronavirus pandemic we contact each other by text, but if I needed anything she would come up to Cleland to help me. That’s what type of person she is.”

And when Joyce contacted us regarding Christine’s nomination, we were only too pleased to help out, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals.

“I think she will be delighted to receive the flowers and that someone has done something for her,” said Joyce.
