Christine Lampard's surprise role in new Chelsea masterplan

Frank Lampard has explained the important role his wife Christine has played during his time as Chelsea manager.

Lampard, Chelsea’s all-time record scorer, was given the job last summer after guiding Derby County to the Championship play-off final.

In his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, Lampard secured Champions League football and reached the FA Cup final.

After a transfer ban last summer, Roman Abramovich has spent big this time around as they aim to close the gap on the top two, signing Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Kai Havertz.

When Kai Havertz could join up with the Chelsea squad

Lampard would have encountered numerous issues during his first 12 months in charge, and has explained the role wife Christine plays if he encounters such problems.

“I go, Christine, what do you think about this problem, I’ve got a player here and he didn’t turn up for training yesterday. But we still probably need him on the weekend, what do you think?” Lampard told the High Performance Podcast with Jake Humphrey.

“And she goes, does he have a girlfriend, a wife? Is there a problem? Have you spoken to them? Maybe you should speak to them.

“And I’m like, yeah. So she’s not my life coach as such, but I’m very fortunate to have someone to bounce things off of at home."

A new-look Chelsea get their 2020/21 Premier League campaign underway on Monday when they make the trip to take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
