Christine and Paddy McGuinness' marriage: Holidays apart and social media absence amid split rumours

Christine and Paddy McGuinness have been plagued with split rumours surrounding their 11-year marriage.

In recent months, the couple have been surrounded by speculation about the state of their marriage due to their holidays apart and lack of social media posts. Paddy, 48, first met wife Christine, 34, in 2007 after she modelled in a fashion show at the Liverpool Tennis Tournament at just 21 years old.

Paddy then popped the question on Christmas Day the following year, and the rest is history. But the couple were once the envy of fans due to frequent loving social media posts gushing about one another, prompting fans to speculate their relationship is on the rocks, writes the Mirror.

Now, Christine has seemingly hinted there was trouble in paradise when she took to Instagram on Thursday (July 7) to share a cryptic motivational quote about discussing trust before love. She also wrote: "There is only one thing I want to make clear right now. I didn’t put us in this situation."

Here we take a look at the highs and lows of their marriage:

Paddy, 48, and Christine tied the knot back in 2011 and have since had their fair share of troubles — their most noticeable in 2018 when the Top Gear host was pictured arm-in-arm with Nicole Appleton on a night out.

And swirling rumours regarding the status of their marriage have been rife in recent months, especially as Paddy hasn't appeared on Christine’s Instagram feed since February.

Christine's cryptic post after the couple, who share three children, were spotted together for the first time looking tense in the car after Christine's holiday abroad without her family.

She was joined on the trip to Croatia by friends and shared a series of pictures from her time away upon her return. She captioned the post: "I followed my heart and it lead me to Croatia. Memories for life, I’m feeling very lucky, so blessed. I’ve laughed sooo much, relaxed and switched off like never before!"

Paddy then left to film Top Gear in London, leaving his family in Cheshire.

Christine has previously revealed Paddy "buried his head in work" after their now nine-year-old twins were diagnosed with autism in 2015. Speaking in the BBC documentary Our Family And Autism, Christine said: "My husband buried his head in work. There are times he just can’t cope with it. There are times when I want to shake him and say, ‘Just get on with it. It’s not that big a deal’."

In her autobiography, A Beautiful Nightmare, she added that Paddy "feels quite down about it all and struggles to see the positives in their condition."

Christine also discussed their wedding day, saying she felt "overwhelmed" by the occasion. She wrote: "I didn’t really know anyone there," admitting only 20 out of 200 guests were from her family. Despite all the stress and chaos, I was so happy to be married to the man I loved.

"The man who was to become the father of my children. The man who I thought was the best thing ever.”

Despite her love for Paddy, their marriage suffered a blow in 2018 when Paddy was pictured on a night out with singer Nicole Appleton. Christine wrote: "My husband, arm-in-arm with another woman. I felt physically sick. I ran to the toilet to vomit. Still to this day I can remember that absolutely awful pit-of-your-stomach feeling."

At the time, she forgave him for the sake of their family.

Earlier this year, Paddy was criticised by fans after failing to publicly support his wife during her stint on The Games. However, Christine has recently addressed rumours about their marriage, saying they are "really good".

"We're really good, honestly," she told OK! Christine added: "We have had difficult times but when I look back at our marriage and see where we are now, I think, ‘Wow, you know, we’ve done alright!’"

Christine went on to praise the parenting skills of Paddy, with the couple sharing twins Penelope and Leo, both nine, and six-year-old Felicity together. She said of hubby Paddy: “He’s got a really strong bond with all of the children and he’s more hands-on now than ever before.

"He used to struggle to switch off from work when he came home and would be in his office writing or whatever. But now he can see the kids are getting older and how fast time flies. So when he’s at home, he makes it all about the kids. We’ve all grown as a family and it’s lovely.”
