Christie Downs man charged with manslaughter and criminal neglect after newborn baby's death

Police say the man was known to the victim. (ABC News: Danielle Bonica)

A South Australian man has been charged with manslaughter and criminal neglect following the death of a baby boy earlier this year.

The newborn was just 21 days old when his parents took him to Noarlunga Hospital in an unresponsive state on April 23.

He was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene, with SA Police (SAPOL) later declaring the death a major crime.

Following an investigation by detectives, a 31-year-old man from Christie Downs, in Adelaide's south, was arrested on Friday morning.

In a statement, SAPOL said the victim was known to the accused, but did not reveal their identities.

The man has been refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday, June 21.

SAPOL said enquiries into the baby's death are continuing, and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
