Christie Brinkley’s Seashell-Infused Coastal Decor Is the Unorthodox Remedy for Winter Blues and Design Boredom

Christie Brinkley.

Deep in the depths of winter, many of us find ourselves fantasizing about a coastal getaway, which is all the more reason to bring the beach to our homes with ocean-inspired decor.

Christie Brinkley has shown us a unique spin on the enduring coastal trend on her Instagram page, displaying her DIY seashell living room mirror in its natural glory.

While some coastal decor schemes lean more subtly, with rattan and cool color palettes at the forefront, we love Christie's literal adaptation of the trend, which brings the outside in and provides ample textural intrigue. To get her look, you may need to embark on a DIY project of your own. However, there are some similar alternatives available, such as this beautiful shell mirror from Wayfair.

Shop the Shell Decor Edit

Design experts say that shell decor like Christie's is just one of many symbols that can be introduced in a coastal design layout.

'There’s more than one way to celebrate summer and bring the appearance of the sea into your home this year,' says Gisela Graham, creative director of the eponymous brand. 'If you’re a fan of the ombre/terracotta look, so on-trend right now, then choose natural, rustic pieces with plenty of texture for a Modern Med feel.

Or, if you love a more traditional beach theme, accent your rooms with shells, fish, and seaside motifs and wooden ornaments, keeping blue as the lead shade in your color palette.'

To achieve the look beyond the mirror, I also love this shell wall sconce from Amazon, or this ivory display bowl from Wayfair, as the ultimate catchall.

From statement shell decor to subtle seaside accents, there’s no wrong way to embrace the coastal trend. Take a cue from Christie Brinkley, mix textures, layer natural elements, and let your home become a year-round beach escape – even when the snow is falling outside.
