Christie Brinkley quits Dancing with the Stars after breaking an arm in rehearsals

Model, actress and entrepreneur Christie Brinkley is a bit of an all rounder, but she won't be adding dancing to her repertoire.

The 65 year-old has been forced to withdraw from her scheduled participation in Dancing with the Stars . The show is the US equivalent of the UK's Strictly Come Dancing .

Christie revealed on Good Morning America that she broke her arms during rehearsals and has to undergo surgery.

Despite the disappointment fans will feel at Christie's absence, they can breath a sigh of relief as none other than her daughter, 21 year-old Sailor Brinkley-Cook, will step up and take her mum's place.

Christie revealed: "Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season."

Sailor is a model for Sport's Illustrated just as her mum has been.

She said: "I'm doing this mostly for my mom. I just want to make her happy and make her proud.

"She loved doing this. She loves dancing and she loves performing, and getting hurt was her worst nightmare."

US broadcasters ABC, alongside BBC Studios, told Fox News of the injury: "While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm.

"She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show. Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother's place for the remainder of the season."

Sailor is the youngest of Christie's brood - she also has Alexa Ray Joel, 33, and Jack Brinkley-Cook, 24.

Christie shared her hopes for her kids for Mother's Day, writing: "Around Mother's Day, I reflect on the lessons I'e taught my children. I encourage them to find a reason to celebrate every day, even the little moments, and I try to lead by example."

The 2019 line-up of the show will be star-studded as ever, and includes names such as former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, NBA pro Lamar Odom, and pop star Ally Brooke.

Carrie Ann Inaba will return to judge, as will Strictly veterans Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli .
