HUBBALLI: A peaceful protest march will be held at St Peter Church campus on Monday at Hubballi, condemning the increasing atrocities on Christian communities in the state, said Hubballi-Dharwad Christian Community president Sunil Mahade.
Speaking to the reporters here on Saturday, he said that we will also oppose the government's move to conduct a survey of churches in the state. Religious practice is our constitutional right. But the government has now ordered a survey of official and unofficial churches, this move is hurting the feelings of Christian community, he said.
Christians have been in India for thousands of years. The Constitution has given us the right to practice our religion like others. Some MLAs were making allegations that we are forcibly converting people to Christianity but all these allegations are baseless and we are not forcing or doing any conversion, he said.
During a recent incident at Navanagar Somaling Avaradi, who had recently allegedly converted to Christianty, was attacked while conducting prayers. "We condemn this incident and also seek action against those who are behind this incident," said Mahade.
Woman files case
Another case was filed in connection with last week's religious conversion row, at Navanagar APMC station on Saturday.
A woman called Ganga has filed a complaint alleging that some 60-70 people of different organisations rushed to the prayer hall last Sunday and vandalised it. This is the third case being registered in connection with the case.
