Christian Wood leads Rockets in dominant home win over Thunder

Christian Wood led the Rockets with a dominant game of 31 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots as Houston cruised to a 124-91 victory (box score) in Friday’s home opener versus Oklahoma City.

Jae’Sean Tate (16 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists) and Kevin Porter Jr. (18 points, 10 assists) joined Wood with double-doubles for the host Rockets, while veteran guard Eric Gordon scored 22 points off the bench on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range (66.7%).

“I think we learned the last game as far as the readiness we need to have, the energy from the start, how we need to play together,” Rockets head coach Stephen Silas said following Friday’s game.

“The experience of game one helped us prepare for game two. Being home, having a crowd definitely helped us. We didn’t like the way we played game one and we rectified it, which is hopefully a sign of things to come as feeling adversity, learning from it, and playing better.”

Shei Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder (0-2) with 13 points, though he was limited to just 6-of-15 shooting (40% FG).

Houston (1-0) wraps up this two-game homestand on Sunday night versus Boston (0-2), with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m. from Toyota Center.
