Christian Ramirez on target as Aberdeen beat Buckie Thistle but Connor Barron injury worry arises

Christian Ramirez netted for Aberdeen as their pre-season preparations kicked off with a late victory against Highland League side Buckie Thistle. The American forward, who was rumoured to be leaving the club at the end of last season, scored a second-half penalty after former Dons youth Max Barry opened the scoring.

The two clubs came together at a sun-drenched Victoria Park for Buckie boss Graeme Stewart's testimonial. He received a guard of honour and warm applause ahead of kick-off in what was a keenly contested affair despite its early placement on the summer schedule, watched by a healthy crowd on Saturday afternoon.

Goodwin changed up his entire XI at half-time after starting new faces Liam Scales and Jayden Richardson following their recent arrivals. The likes of Ramirez, Jonny Hayes, Connor Barron and David Bates came into the fray following the restart but it was Buckie who struck first through Barry.

The midfielder was released by Aberdeen in 2020 and he appeared to shush the visiting dugout after hitting the opener. But the Highlanders' lead was short lived as Kieran Ngwenya was fouled in the box and Ramirez converted from 12 yards.

The friendly appeared destined to end all square until Matty Kennedy popped up with a well-taken first time strike to give the Premiership side the victory.

Goodwin, however, will hope injuries to both Barron and Jack MacKenzie are not too much of a concern.
