Christian Ramirez insists he can be Aberdeen's secret transfer weapon as he makes sales pitch to Stephen Glass

Christian Ramirez is hoping his red-hot start at Aberdeen can help him burst back into the US side.

The big striker has two caps and one goal but is keen to add to his international collection.

Ramirez last played for America back in 2019 but reckons his move to Scotland can help raise his profile again.

The 30-year-old joined the Dons from Houston Dynamo and has already repaid Stephen Glass ’s faith in him with four goals in as many starts.

He will be looking to add to that tally when Breidablik arrive at Pittodrie on Thursday night in the second leg of their Europa Conference League clash.

When asked about a US recall, Ramirez said: “I hope so. I can only control what I do. I know if I continue to perform like I did on Thursday and I continue to get goals that will make noise in itself.

“Gregg Berhalter knows I am only a call away if he needs me in any role he wants me, even if it is just for a game or two, if somebody goes down.

“I am just focused on each game and trying to get better. It has been a while since I have played consistently. I can’t tell you how much I have missed playing in this sort of environment.”

Ramirez is the latest American to move to the Premiership. He joins Dundee United’s Ian Harkes and the next one will be Hibs -bound Chris Mueller.

The Orlando City winger has agreed a pre-contract with the Easter Road club, although they are keen to get a deal done in this window.

Ramirez joked he thought Mueller might have been joining him at Pittodrie.

He admitted: “A lot of people message me and when I woke up I was wondering, is he coming to us?

“I came in and asked the gaffer, ‘Is he coming to us?’ He said, ‘Not that I know of’.

“I have told the gaffer if he wants me to convince anyone to come across from abroad I will be his first recruiter.”

Ramirez had previously turned down opportunities to move to Mexico but insisted the chance to play in Europe for Aberdeen was too good to turn down.

He has helped the Dons to a 100 percent record in the league and into the next round of the Europa Conference League.

They lead Breidablik 3-2 after last week’s win in Iceland.

Ramirez knows why Scotland is becoming more and more appealing to Americans.

He stated: “The game continues to grow and evolve here. It is attractive and the history of this club speaks for itself and bodes well for me.”

It also bucks the recent trend where Scottish players went the other way to make a name for themselves in Major League Soccer. Danny Wilson is at Colorado Rapids, Lewis Morgan has made home at Inter Miami and Johnny Russell, who is captain at Sporting Club Kansas, are still flying the Scottish flag on the other side of the Atlantic.

The American knows there is a different atmosphere at Scottish games and the fans across here are a lot more intense.

He has seen that as they have been gradually allowed back into the grounds. Ramirez has admitted it has been special playing in front of fans at Pittodrie.

Thursday should bring a near sell-out and the frontman knows it could be massive for the Dons as they look to make it into the play-off round.

If they get there then the winners of AEL Limassol and Qarabag will stand between them and the league stages.

Ramirez admitted: “I played against several guys. Sam Nicholson was one of my team mates at Minnesota.

“I know the league and I know what is expected. I am just excited and I feel like a kid again in the stadium, playing this game I love.”
