Aberdeen have agreed a fee and a deal to sign US cap Christian Ramirez.
The Dons have thrashed out terms with the 30-year-old striker and are in the process of finalising the final paperwork of his transfer from Major League Soccer.
The deal will then be subject to an SFA tribunal agreeing to issue a work visa - which may have to go to appeal.
Stephen Glass wants the Houston Dynamo frontman in place and ready for when his team starts their Europa League Conference preparations.
If a deal is sanctioned then Ramirez would need to go through a 10 day self-isolation period before he could join up with the Dons.

Glass knows Ramirez well from his own time in MLS while assistant boss Allan Russell also coached him when he was Stateside.
The highly-experienced Ramirez, who has two US caps, has also turned out for Minnesota United Los Angeles FC.
Glass is also set to go into self-isolation as he finalises his own return from the States.
He has already started to put his squad in place with Scott Brown coming in as a player/coach, Declan Gallagher will join his squad after his Euro 2020 assault with Scotland and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas have all signed.
Jack Gurr is also set to come in on-loan from Atlanta United for the return of pre-season.
Aberdeen are also keen on St Mirren midfielder Jamie McGrath and Clark Robertson both those moves look longer shots.
There is growing interest in McGrath after his season and his recent Republic of Ireland call-up.
Defender Robertson is considering offers from Polish side Slask Wroclaw, Portsmouth and Hapoel Jerusalem.
Glass will be looking to strengthen his squad further before they go into the qualifying rounds of the Europa League Conference next month.
