Christian Pulisic transfer twist as 'sponsors' prepare for $32.6m Chelsea move

Christian Pulisic continues to be linked with a move away from Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

The USMNT star is expected to be one of many Stamford Bridge players to depart at the end of the season as part of Todd Boehly's overhaul of the playing squad. Pulisic's current contract expires at the end of next season, meaning he is likely to be sold this summer to ensure his club get a fee.

Pulisic, who cost Chelsea £58 million in 2019, has failed to make an impact in the Premier League. It was hoped that he would revive his stint in London following Frank Lampard's return, but he has played only 85 Premier League minutes in six games.

The winger was close to leaving the Blues last summer and January, but no deal materialised. AC Milan and Newcastle have been linked with a move for the 24 year-old, but recent Serie A winners Napoli could be set to make a move.

Reports in Italy had previously claimed Napoli had 'expressed an interest' in signing the player and a move could be backed by their sponsors.

According to Italian media outlet Repubblica (via Calcio Napoli 24), the United States ace is an attractive asset for Gli Azzurri due to his 'economic' value. The report claims that the club's US sponsors are 'ready to support' a move for Pulisic, who will bring valuable attention and support from the United States of Ameirca.

Pulisic will, reportedly, cost around €30m ($32.6m) at the end of the season - around $40m less than what Chelsea paid Borussia Dortmund him. It remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed, with Wolves' Adama Traore looking less likely to secure a move to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona amid concerns over his salary.

Napoli will, themselves, spend the summer transfer window buying and selling players after winning their first Scudetto since 1990. A host of their key assets - Victor Osimhen and Kim Min-jae - are all being linked with a big-money move away after their superb season.
