Christian Pulisic told how he can revive Chelsea career with key World Cup role against England

Former USMNT international Eddie Lewis has claimed that Christian Pulisic could play his way back into the Chelsea team with his performances at the World Cup. The 24-year-old has struggled to cement his place in the first-team since making the switch to West London.

It's that difficulty which has led towards a potential exit, with plenty of links circulating a switch back in the summer window as well as in the future. Though under new boss Graham Potter he could be handed a new lease of life as the manager revealed his plans for Pulisic on the left of the attack.

“It’s understandable [he was nervous]," The head coach said after victory over Wolves last month. "He’s a human being. He wants to play, wants to help. It’s about how you put the players on the pitch so it suits them. The role for Christian was a good one for him. It was high wide left, he could attack the back line, and it was nice for him to score.”

It remains to be seen if he will still have a place in that position for Potter, however he can certainly help his chances with his performances at the World Cup. The former captain has joined up with the USA squad for their campaign, registering a draw in their opener against Wales.

It puts plenty of pressure on their final two games, starting with a clash against England on Friday night that could create an upset. It's those types of games that makes Lewis believe Pulisic could play his way into the team, telling the Daily Star: "He’s definitely one of a few players really trying to get some of their careers back on track.

“Christian has had an up and down time at Chelsea for sure. He is the big name for the US. His influence on the game is critical, but, unlike a few other teams, I don’t think the US is really as dependent on one or two players. It will be how they perform as a group and as a unit that will determine how successful they will be.”
