Christian Pulisic to miss Chelsea’s meeting with Sheffield United

Christian Pulisic will miss Chelsea’s game against Sheffield United on Saturday as he continues to manage a hamstring injury.

The American pulled up in the warm-up last weekend with a twinge in his hamstring, which he first injured during the FA Cup final back in August, and although he is back training at a “low level” Frank Lampard says he will not play for Chelsea until after the upcoming international break.

“Pulisic is not fit to play, he is still suffering with his hamstring and he is not training at the moment,” Lampard said.

Lampard confirmed that Kai Havertz is isolating with coronavirus, while Kepa Arrizabalaga returns to the squad following a shoulder injury.

Asked why Olivier Giroud has not seen much action this season following a strong finish to last year’s campaign, Lampard said: “It is part of my job that good people, top players in the group don't always play.”

And on the challenge of facing the Blades, the Chelsea manager said they are far better than their 19th-place in the table.

"It is a big challenge and I want to be clear that Sheffield United are an amazing team with a great manager. When we look at the table, we shouldn't use that as a guidline at the moment."
