Christian Pulisic speaks out on Chelsea's January transfer plans

Christian Pulisic says he is prepared to welcome any new arrivals at Chelsea , even if it means further competition for his first-team place.

The American has suffered indifferent form since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in the summer, while speculation continues to link the Blues with Jadon Sancho and Wilfried Zaha .

With competition in the forward positions at Chelsea already rife, a move for either Sancho or Zaha would threaten Pulisic's involvement.

But even with teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi returning from injury, it is a prospect Pulisic claims he would relish.

Speaking after Chelsea's draw with Brighton on New Years Day, he said: "Yeah I mean it is normal, teams look to improve their team and if players do come in there is competition, that is how it goes.

"So we’ll be ready for that and hopefully we’ll have players that come in and want to help us."

Pulisic's former Borussia Dortmund teammate Sancho has been consistently linked with Chelsea, although they would no doubt face a battle with other clubs in Europe's elite for his signature.

Chelsea would likely have an easier task of tempting Zaha to the Bridge, but boss Frank Lampard was quick to play down any interest in the Crystal Palace star.

"I wouldn’t talk about Zaha and the idea of that deal is something I’ve never even considered," Lampard said.

"I won’t talk about Zaha because he’s not a player of ours.

"If we have to do business we’ll do it in the way that we see fit to try and make us better. And that’s behind closed doors as opposed to just announcing who we might want to bring in."

One man who looks certain to leave Chelsea is out-of-favour frontman Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman's contract expires in the summer, but is hopeful of sealing a move elsewhere in order to get first-team football ahead of Euro 2020.

Recent reports suggest Chelsea are willing to offer Giroud as part of the deal to land Zaha.
