Christian Pulisic shows true Chelsea feelings and sets N'Golo Kante major challenge

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic has sent a clear warning to the Blues' Premier League rivals insisting they can still impact the top-four battle. Despite picking up seven points out of a possible nine in the last three weeks, Chelsea remain in the same position they were in prior to the start of March in being eleven points away from Tottenham who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.

A fourth consecutive win in all competitions was snatched away from Graham Potter and his side when Ellis Simms struck with minutes to spare for Everton. During this month, Chelsea had been able to rectify recent disappointing displays with league wins over Leeds and Leicester and a monumental Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund.

Kai Havertz likely thought he'd sealed another win when he scored from the penalty spot with less than 15 minutes to go after Abdoulaye Doucoure cancelled out Joao Felix's opener. However, mistakes at the back saw the Blues concede and subsequently Everton earned a vital point in their relegation battle.

Following the game, Pulisic, making his first start since suffering an injury on January 5, was full of praise for his teammates and is of the belief Chelsea still have plenty to play for this season. "We have built our confidence," he said. "I like the way we are playing in a lot of ways. This game was unfortunate but we can be proud of overcoming that tough spell we had and we are trying to look forward.

“We are a confident team, we know we have good enough players to do some damage in the Champions League and we need to focus on the Prem [Premier League] and still fight to get in that top four and do the best we can in both competitions. If we string a couple of wins together we can make the top four. We still have to play the teams above us. Anything is possible. We are going to keep fighting."

Significant spending in the last two transfer windows has made things somewhat challenging for those already at the club and Potter. However, the USMNT star insists relationships are developing with praise for one particular partnership.

"So many players in the squad and we are getting to know each other. I think we are developing. You can see it on the pitch. Enzo and Mateo Kovacic, playing so well together. It is starting to click. We still have a way to go but you can see the improvement.”

Kovacic and Fernandez have been the midfield duo for Chelsea's last four games with both complimenting each other's strengths. Kovacic has also been handed the armband while Fernandez has been delivering his best Chelsea displays since signing in January.

N'Golo Kante will hoping to establish himself back into the midfield after returning to the squad following a lengthy injury lay-off. However, he faces a difficult challenge to dislodge one of Fernandez and Kovacic from the starting XI.
