Christian Pulisic has said that Trevoh Chalobah’s dream start to Premier League life is “well deserved.”
Chalobah has had an amazing week after helping Chelsea to lift the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday evening, before scoring on his top flight debut in the Blues’ 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The 22-year-old was expected to leave the club on another loan deal before the end of the transfer window on August 31, but his array of performances in pre-season, as well as his start to competitive life at Chelsea, have put a temporary stop to that plan.
In the 58 th minute of the London derby at Stamford Bridge, the now centre-back sent a low driven shot from outside the box into the bottom right-hand corner.
According to Pulisic, Chalobah’s goal, as well as his all-round performance, was testament to his hard work.
“Trevoh’s goal was so well deserved,” Pulisic told Chelsea’s official website.
“He works so hard and he’s been in the team for the last few games and he’s played unbelievably, so that was the icing on the top and I’m very happy for him.”
Chalobah himself was surprised at scoring, and was thankful for the support he was shown by the Chelsea fans in the stadium.
"I couldn't believe when the ball went in," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "I didn't know it went in until the crowd cheered. It was a surreal moment."
Although he’s not expecting to keep Thiago Silva out of the side in the long-term, it’ll be hard for Thomas Tuchel to drop him before next weekend’s huge clash with Arsenal, and Chalobah will be hungry to keep on improving if given the chance.
