Christian Pulisic's 'electric' display and more - how the media reacted to Chelsea's Ajax win

Chelsea picked up a hard-earned three points in their Champions League win over Ajax on Wednesday night.

Michy Batshuayi grabbed the only goal of the game as Frank Lampard's side kept a clean sheet in Amsterdam, and the national press is positively beaming about the professional performance.

There was yet more VAR controversy in the first half as the hosts saw a goal ruled out by the slimmest of margins, but there was no such problem for Batshuayi after making his appearance from the bench.

Fellow substitute Christian Pulisic set up the goal with a winding run down the left before putting in a low cross for the Belgian striker to slam home off the underside of the bar.

It was the American attacker's second decisive impact for Chelsea in two games following his part in the winner against Newcastle at the weekend, and the media have certainly taken note of his increased prominence.

Here's how a selection of leading outputs covered the game:

BBC - Chelsea fully deserved their win for a hugely impressive away performance as they recorded a second successive win that moves them top of the group, level with Ajax on six points.

The Guardian - Pulisic was electric after his introduction, all quick feet and direct running, and it was from his low cross that Batshuayi profited, banging a firm finish in off the underside of the crossbar.

The Mirror - Chelsea's youngsters come of age to see off Ajax in best performance under Frank Lampard

The Sun - The victory was all the more impressive as it saw Lampard’s men prevent Ajax from scoring at home for the first time since February 2018, adding another proud moment in Fikayo Tomori’s rapid rise.

The Times - Fearless Chelsea flourish at Frank Lampard's finishing school

The Daily Mail - Chelsea have been impressive under their new manager and this win made it six on the bounce. But Chelsea had hitherto lacked a stand out victory against a really good side. Now they have one.
