Christian Nerlinger rejects Rangers offer to replace Ross Wilson as ex-star admits he's 'honoured'

Christian Nerlinger has rejected an offer from Rangers to replace Ross Wilson but admits he was 'honoured' to be approached.

The former Ibrox star seemed to fit the bill to replace the former Sporting Director who left Rangers this week to take up a senior football role at English Premier League side Nottingham Forest. Wilson had taken some flak from sections of the Ibrox support but delivered a heartfelt message to fans upon his departure.

Rangers may have been looking to move quickly to fill the void after Michael Beale spoke of losing a 'good ally' in Wilson. But the German Nerlinger won't be the man to take up the post as he revealed he rejected an approach.

He did, however, admit he was honoured to be considered for a role at a club like Rangers. He told Transfermarkt: "It is a great honour for me to be contacted by this incredibly large and traditional club. Rangers are and always will be special to me.

"With my agency, I have built up a very close, loyal and trusting relationship with my players over the past few years and I feel a great responsibility towards them. The agency is the way I always wanted it to be, and I really enjoy working with the guys every day.”
