Christian Hackenberg shows slight improvement but gets hit hard in 2nd AAF game

After a disastrous debut, Christian Hackenberg saw a little improvement in his second game with Alliance of American Football on Saturday.

The ex-Jets quarterback started in his second game for the Memphis Express and went 14-of-25 for 102 yards. Additionally, he had seven carries for 39 yards, including a 4-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hackenberg paid a price for the touchdown, however, getting crushed with a late hit in the end zone.

Hackenberg struggled mightily in his debut with the Express last weekend. He went 10-of-23 for 87 yards and an interception, and was benched late in the game.

The 23-year-old quarterback is trying to revive his career in the new developmental league after a short stint in the NFL. Hackenberg was a second-round pick by the Jets in 2016 but he never got any playing time. By May 2018, the Jets had seen enough of Hackenberg and traded him to Oakland. He was cut three weeks later.

Hackenberg then moved on to Philadelphia, but played in only one preseason game, which happened to be against the Jets, and was eventually cut. His last stop in the NFL was on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad.
