Christian Eriksen will have 'heart starter' device fitted after cardiac arrest at UEFA Euro 2020

Christian Eriksen will have a implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted after suffering a cardiac arrest during his match on Sunday afternoon.

The Denmark midfielder collapsed in the first half in the Euro 2020 match against Finland.

The former Tottenham and current Inter star was taken to Rigshospitalet near the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

And he will now have the device fitted after consultation with a number of heart specialists.

The Danish FA said: "After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter). This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

"Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.

"We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time.”

UEFA have come under fire for the way the incident was dealt with but have stated Denmark wanted to finish the match against Finland on the day – which was completed hours later with the Finns winning 1-0.

Denmark will applaud in the 10th minute when they play Belgium on Thursday as a tribute to their stricken team-mate.
