Christian Eriksen: Tottenham reunion was special - I hope they finish in top four

Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen says he hopes his former club Tottenham finish in the top four despite denting their Champions League hopes on Saturday.

Eriksen was part of a Bees side that held Spurs to a 0-0 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium and were unfortunate not to take all three points after hitting the woodwork twice.

The Dane, who has been linked with a summer return to Tottenham, was facing his former side for the first time and received a standing ovation from the away end when taking a corner early in the first half.

“Obviously it was the first time playing against Spurs since I left so it would be special, but I’m okay with a draw,” he told Sky Sports.

“I was extra (nervous)…but it was lovely.”

The result, coupled with Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United earlier in the day, saw Spurs slip out of the top four, trailing the Gunners by two points.

“I’m still a Spurs fan,” Eriksen added. “I hope they get in the Champions League.”
