Christian Eriksen told three reasons why he is Manchester United’s player of the season so far

Christian Eriksen has been praised for his forward play since his Manchester United arrival and has been branded the club’s best player this season.

The midfielder has won plaudits from fans and pundits alike for his stylish link-up work and creative play. Eriksen has adopted a deeper role under Erik ten Hag at United but has still been able to influence games.

The Dane, who is set to play in this winter’s World Cup just 18 months after his on-field cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, arrived in the summer from Brentford on a free transfer. Alongside Bruno Fernandes and fellow new arrival Casemiro, he has helped form a promising trio in the centre of the park.

Eriksen has provided five assists this season, the most in the United squad. His overall play has prompted ex-defender Mikael Silvestre to choose him as the club’s best-performing star so far this term.

The former Reds centre-back listed three reasons why Eriksen was deserving of the title. “His positioning, his transition play. I’ve been impressed with his defensive attitude and efforts,” he told Betting Expert.

“I think Christian Eriksen has been the best so far. He fitted straight into the team and brought what he does best in midfield. He’s been excellent on both sides of the game. He’s the one that stands out so far.”

Eriksen has played 18 games in total this season, starting all but two of them. He has been named in the provisional 21-man Denmark squad ahead of the World Cup, with the other five players being revealed after this weekend.

He is likely to start against Tunisia on November 22, the country’s opening group match, in what is sure to be a poignant moment for the 30-year-old following his heroic medical comeback.

He signed for Brentford in January - just seven months after the incident at Euro 2020 - and recorded a goal and four assists in 11 matches prior to his switch to United.
