German legend Lothar Matthaus has dismissed talk of Christian Eriksen leaving Spurs to join Bayern Munich.
The Dane is out of contract in north London in the summer and it does look like he will be heading for the exit door with no sign of him putting pen-to-paper on new terms.
Amid the real possibility of Spurs losing one of their most valuable players for absolutely nothing, he could be sold in January if a club submits a bid once the transfer window reopens.
However, the fact he will be entering the final few months of his contract means that could be unlikely as he will be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from the tun of the year.
Bayern have been mentioned in the media as a potential destination for the 27-year-old, yet Matthaus believes a move to the Allianz Arena "wouldn't make any sense" as Bayern "do not need substitutes".
"I have been following the player for a long time, and he has disappointed me so far in 2019," he told Sport 1 (via Sport Witness).
"A transfer to FC Bayern would not make any sense for me and would be very surprising. For me, he is not a player who helps Bayern.
"If he is not enough for Tottenham, he is not good enough for Bayern. Uli Hoeneß has also said that Bayern do not need substitutes."
"Eriksen is a fine technician, a typical number 10," he added. "But he’s too slow, and Niko Kovac likes fast players.
"For me, Eriksen is not the kind of player who makes all the difference at the highest level, so concentrate on the transfer of Kai Havertz next summer, and you still have Philippe Coutinho, who plays well as a ten.
"Do not forget Müller, who can play any position offensively and should not give up, I stick to it: Eriksen makes no sense to me."
