Christian Eriksen smiles and gives thumbs up in first picture since cardiac arrest

Christian Eriksen says he feels "fine" in his first social media update since collapsing on the pitch on Saturday.

The Denmark star suffered a cardiac arrest in the match against Finland, and required CPR..

Writing on Instagram alongside a picture of him smiling, Eriksen wrote: "Hello everyone.

"Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.

"I'm fine - under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.

"Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark. Best, Christian."

Eriksen was rushed to hospital on Saturday when he collapsed in the first half of the match against Finland, with his teammates forming a ring around him as he was treated by medics.

After the match was abandoned for around 90 minutes, Eriksen was able to send a message to his teammates before they returned to the field to complete the game.

On Monday he sent his first message through his agent, saying: "Thank you, I won't give up. I feel better now - but I want to understand what's happened," he said.

"I want to say thank you all for what you did for me."

Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen says his medical results have so far been normal.

"The exams that have been done so far look fine," Boesen told a news conference.

"We don't have an explanation why it happened. I can't answer that question.

"I didn't see it live, I saw it on screen when it happened. You saw the same as me. No explanation so far."

Confirming that Ereiksen had a cardiac arrest, he added: "He was gone.

"We did cardiac resuscitation, it was a cardiac arrest.

"How close were we to losing him? I don't know, but we got him back after one defib, so that's quite fast."

On the decision to finish the match he said: "I don't think the right decision was to play the game.

"We had help from a psychological point of view at the hotel last night. Everyone expressed their feelings and how they saw the situation, and everyone was pleased we did this and talked it through.

"We really appreciated the professional help we have had from the outside."
