Christian Eriksen sends touching message as he gives update from hospital bed

Denmark star Christian Eriksen has declared he is 'fine - under the circumstances' in his first social media message since suffering cardiac arrest during a match against Finland on Saturday.

Eriksen required CPR on the pitch as Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen admitted afterwards the Inter Milan midfielder 'was gone'.

The scores were tied at 0-0 at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen when the 29-year-old fell to the ground with no-one around him on the pitch while controlling a throw-in.

Denmark players and fans were in tears as medical staff rushed on for treatment, with his distraught team-mates forming a shield around him as the procedures were taking place.

Writing on Instagram this morning, Eriksen said: "Hello everyone.

"Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.

"I'm fine - under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.

"Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches.

"Play for all of Denmark. Best, Christian."

Boesen said at a press conference after the incident: "The exams that have been done so far look fine.

"We don't have an explanation why it happened. I can't answer that question.

“I didn’t see it live, I saw it on the screen after it happened. It was a cardiac arrest. He was gone and we did cardiac resuscitation.

“How close were we? I don’t know. We got him back after one defib. That’s quite fast.

“The details, I’m not a cardiologist, so I will leave to the experts.”
